Objective

You will explore your own identity (Level 1), or Spanish routines and customs (Level 2), or important places and the history of Barcelona (Level 3). You will ask and answer questions, give information, describe your favorite things and your family at home and in Spain. For your project, you will create and present a Personal Profile. On week 1, you will also learn how to navigate the city, follow safety protocols, and communicate in culturally appropiate ways. 

Your language level is determined through a language proficiency test before you arrive on program.

Objective

You will explore the theme of community (Level 1), or creativity (Levels 2 and 3). Level 1 students learn to describe community places, shops, landmarks, and locations, as well as express wants and needs and likes and dislikes around topics such as Spanish dishes, fashion, and community events. Level 2 and 3 students express opinions, compare and contrast, and engage in discussion about Barcelona’s creative and cultural side, exploring topics from music to street art to cultural events to famous Spanish painters. At the end of the week, you will have either a complete project about community life and routines in Barcelona (Level 1) or a slideshow on different aspects of Spanish culture (Levels 2 and 3).

Objective

You will discover more about Barcelona and Spain while focusing in on different vocabulary, structures, and functions. Level 1 students learn how to give and follow directions, describe places and weather, and express intentions while building vocabulary around travel needs, tourist attractions, and time and weather. Level 2 students express opinions, dramatize, and ask for and give information while building vocabulary around neighborhoods, historical terms, shopping, locations, and opinion phrases. Level 3 students learn to persuade, justify, and engage in discussion on different public awareness issues while building vocabulary around causes and effects, problems and solutions, and transition words. At the end of the week, you will have either a Travel Flyer (Level 1), a Virtual Tour of a Barcelona Neighborhood (Level 2), or a Public Awareness Campaign Video (Level 3).

Objective

You will reflect on your own personal growth as you zone in on different vocabulary, structures, and functions. You will examine the benefits of traveling and how to respectfully adapt to other cultures as well as express future intentions, interview your peers about study abroad, and describe the impact of your own study abroad experience. At the end of the week, you will engage in a panel discussion on the impact of study abroad and have a complete project documenting their journey abroad.

Each day offers a balance between interactive instruction and cultural activities with time on your own, too. Engage in cultural activities in the morning and classes in the afternoon.
