°®ÓÎÏ·ÏÂÔØ

As a reformed picky eater, while studying abroad in Madrid through °®ÓÎÏ·ÏÂÔØ this past semester, I have committed myself to expanding and advancing my palate. Below, I have listed and described my top four recommendations with different classification for those who are lucky enough to be incoming °®ÓÎÏ·ÏÂÔØ students in Madrid!

1. #1 Fast Food: Vira Vira Gyros. Of course, I want to acknowledge the obvious that this is not traditional Spanish cuisine. However, these Greek gyros and bowls were actually born here in Salamanca and are a perfect quick and filling lunch in between classes!
2. #1 Meal with Friends: Takos al Pastor. I heard about this restaurant initially during my °®ÓÎÏ·ÏÂÔØ orientation a few hours after touching down in Spain—if that doesn’t speak to its notoriety, perhaps the daily out-the-door line does. Don’t worry about a wait, though, Takos has their service and food down to a science. I often order several of their 1-dollar tacos 15 minutes after arriving and receive them in even less time. Definitely a must-try and a favorite of many °®ÓÎÏ·ÏÂÔØ students!
3. #1 Intimate Dinner Spot: Art & Sushi. Located near the intersection of Malasaña and Trafalgar, this award-winning sushi restaurant is loved by all who visit. Its interior is beautifully decorated with a minimalist theme and its sushi is incredibly fresh and tasty. Great for date night or bringing visitors whom you have not seen in a while!
4. #1 Aesthetic Restaurant: El Jardín Secreto. While I have committed to trying new restaurants during my time here, this spot has been a multi-repeat. Its eclectic ambiance match its menu which is 75% dessert while still having a dish for everyone. Dining at El Jardín Secreto is extremely fun and affordable, and for these reasons I always recommend it to friends!
5. #1 Place to Bring the Parents: Bel Mondo. Bel Mondo is a beautiful Italian spot located in Madrid’s Salamanca. Their pink and plush interior is truly castle-quality to complement Madrid’s Palacio Real. I went here with family and the group ordered an array of delicious pastas and pizzas. This spot is impossible not to enjoy if you’re able to go!
